The tax credit for first-time homebuyers has been extended to apply to home purchases occurring before April 30, 2010.
Qualified first-time homebuyers buying a primary residence can receive 10 percent of their home’s purchase price up to $8,000. First-time homebuyers purchasing a new or resale residence are eligible to receive the tax credit.
This new extended tax credit has also been expanded to repeat homebuyers – who are eligible for up to $6,500.
And, for qualified homes purchased in 2010, taxpayers may choose to claim the tax credit on either their 2009 or 2010 tax return.
